The Earthshot Prize has announced a new multi-year partnership with Amazon aimed at accelerating the real-world deployment of environmental innovations developed by Earthshot Prize Finalists.

Turning innovation into implementation

Under the collaboration, Amazon joins The Earthshot Prize as a Global Alliance Founding Partner and will work to integrate environmental technologies developed by finalists into its global operations and supply chain. The initiative is designed to move beyond recognising innovation to actively implementing solutions at scale.

The partnership aligns with Amazon’s commitment under The Climate Pledge, which targets net-zero carbon emissions across the company’s operations by 2040.

Scaling environmental innovation through global supply chains

Amazon’s global logistics and supply chain network is expected to play a key role in deploying environmental technologies developed by Earthshot Prize finalists.

As part of the collaboration, Amazon will work with The Earthshot Prize to identify opportunities where finalist solutions can be integrated across its operations and supplier ecosystem.

The initiative will also connect finalists with Amazon suppliers and the more than 630 companies that have signed The Climate Pledge, encouraging wider adoption of environmental technologies across industries.

Finalist innovations will be showcased at The Climate Pledge Hub during London Climate Action Week and New York Climate Week, creating opportunities for organisations to explore how the technologies could support their sustainability goals.

Unlocking funding and investment for climate solutions

The partnership will also focus on supporting the scaling of finalist innovations by facilitating introductions to potential investors and partners.

This includes connecting innovators with Climate Pledge signatories and exploring funding opportunities through the Climate Pledge Fund, Amazon’s $2 billion investment initiative supporting companies developing technologies to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy.

The collaboration builds on the investment momentum already generated by Earthshot Prize finalists. To date, finalists have collectively secured more than $500 million in grants and investment capital.

A shared focus on climate action and implementation

Kara Hurst, Chief Sustainability Officer at Amazon, said the partnership reflects the importance of collaboration in addressing climate challenges.

“Addressing climate change challenges at scale requires urgency, collaboration and practical action.

“The Earthshot Prize brings together some of the world’s leading thinking on addressing the effects of climate change. This collaboration allows us to offer to the more than 630 signatories of The Climate Pledge the chance to benefit from innovative solutions in a way that brings them closer to their sustainability goals.

“Together we can integrate ideas across industries in ways that deliver for customers, communities and the planet.”

Jason Knauf, CEO of The Earthshot Prize, added that the partnership will help accelerate the practical application of environmental innovation.

“Partnering with Amazon marks an important moment for The Earthshot Prize.

“Our mission has always been to find and accelerate the solutions that can repair and regenerate our planet. Working with a global organisation like Amazon means we can put our Finalists’ ideas into action, in ways that allow people around the world to experience the benefit.

“Amazon joins a growing community of organisations working with The Earthshot Prize to turn breakthrough ideas into practical action.”

The Earthshot Prize’s mission to accelerate global climate solutions

Founded by Prince William in 2020, The Earthshot Prize aims to identify and scale solutions to some of the planet’s most pressing environmental challenges.

The initiative focuses on five key goals – Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix Our Climate.

Each year, more than 400 expert nominators submit potential solutions aligned with these goals. From this global pipeline of innovations, 15 finalists are selected annually, with five winners receiving £1 million each to help scale their impact.

Since its launch, the programme has supported 75 finalists worldwide and aims to reach 150 by 2030.

Building a global ecosystem for climate innovation

Amazon joins a Global Alliance of organisations supporting The Earthshot Prize’s mission to accelerate environmental innovation. The alliance includes partners such as Bloomberg Philanthropies, Breakthrough Energy, Bezos Earth Fund, Temasek Trust, Standard Chartered and Uber.

The collaboration comes at a critical moment for climate action, as The Earthshot Prize focuses its next cohort of finalists on solutions capable of delivering rapid, scalable progress toward its environmental goals by 2030.
