HP has outlined how sustainability is becoming increasingly integrated into the future of work, linking environmental performance, circularity and digital inclusion with evolving workplace technologies and AI-driven business transformation in its 2025 Sustainability Progress Report

HP connects sustainability strategy to the future of work

HP says sustainability is playing a growing role in shaping the future workplace as organisations adopt AI, hybrid working models and digitally connected operations.

In a statement accompanying the company’s FY25 Sustainability Progress Report, Bruce Broussard, Interim Chief Executive Officer of HP Inc., said changing expectations around technology and work are increasing demand for products and companies that can be trusted.

According to Broussard, HP views this transition as an opportunity to support both business growth and professional fulfilment through technology designed to improve how people work.

“At HP, we see this as an opportunity to shape a Future of Work that drives business growth and professional fulfilment, so people can do their best work,” he said.

Circularity and recycled materials remain key priorities

In a blog post, Broussard said sustainability is embedded throughout its operations, including product design, sourcing, manufacturing and delivery.

The company reported that it has recycled more than 1.2 million tons of hardware, supplies and accessories since 2016 and more than 30% post-consumer recycled plastic content has now been incorporated across its personal systems and print portfolio, contributing to 47% of product and packaging materials being sourced from recycled, reused and renewable origins.

The company said these initiatives form part of broader efforts to build resilience and reduce environmental impact across its value chain.

Sustainability performance and global ratings

EcoVadis has awarded the company a Platinum medal for the 16th consecutive year, placing it among the top 1% of more than 100,000 companies assessed globally by the sustainability ratings provider.

Broussard said the recognition reflects ongoing work across the company’s sustainability programmes and operations.

“We are proud of this recognition — and more proud of the work it reflects,” he said.

“We have also reached 82 million people through our social impact programs and partnerships, putting us more than halfway to our goal of accelerating the future of work for 150 million people by 2030. The promise of the future of work is not evenly distributed. People without access to technology and the skills to use are too often left out of the economic opportunity it creates — and HP is committed to changing that.”

Technology positioned as driver of sustainable business impact

HP said sustainability progress should also be measured through the practical impact technology has on businesses and individuals.

The company highlighted examples including small businesses using AI-enabled tools to improve productivity, teachers expanding digital learning access, and entrepreneurs developing new skills through online education platforms.

Broussard said HP’s technology strategy is intended to support long-term economic resilience while improving access to opportunity.

“Sustainability plays a role here. It’s built into how we innovate and operate, helping organizations grow, creating opportunities for individuals and communities, and supporting a more resilient future,” he said.

“Progress like this doesn’t happen alone. We will keep building on it — with the same commitment that makes it possible. Thank you to HP’s employees, customers, suppliers, and partners for their dedication to this progress.”

“Together, we are building a more resilient Future of Work.”

Collaboration essential to future sustainability progress

HP said continued progress will depend on collaboration across employees, customers, suppliers and partners and that it plans to continue building on its sustainability and future-of-work initiatives as workplace technologies continue to evolve.

“This year’s report reflects strong progress across our environmental and societal priorities, while also evolving how we communicate—ensuring our disclosures are clear, transparent, and aligned with a rapidly changing regulatory and business landscape in the AI era,” added Chief Sustainability Officer Jen Huffstetler.

“At HP, we are redefining the Future of Work through technology. Sustainability is built into how we innovate and operate, helping organizations grow, creating opportunities for individuals and communities, and supporting a more resilient future.”
